Jazz  & Contemporary

There are many different Jazz, Modern and Contemporary classes on offer for all ages. If your child wants to dance for fun or gain the strength and technique to go on to further dance study, we have the right class.

Students have the opportunity to audition for our Contemporary Youth Company on an annual basis.

 

MONDAY

Level 1 is aimed at students 10+ who are new to dance or the Contemporary style. Contemporary dance focusses on strength, versatility, improvisation and free movement. Students learn  technical exercises and put them together to perform routines. This dance genre is performed in bare feet. Contemporary dance can be performed to many different styles of music and is style is taught on our GCSE DANCE course where students also learn the art of choeography.

Theatre Jazz 10+yrs

This is a Modern/Jazz class where students learn repertoire from popular musicals or learn the dance style of a different Musical Theatre choreographer. This type of dancing is energetic and fun, consisting of unique moves, fast footwork, big leaps and quick turns. Students will perform stretches, floor work and travelling steps from the corner. This is a fun energetic class where students are also encouraged to improvise and choreograph small segments.

Contemporary Level 2

Level 2 progresses from level 1 for students 10+ who have already mastered the Contemporary style. Contemporary dance focusses on strength, versatility, improvisation and free movement. Students learn  technical exercises and put them together to perform routines.    This dance genre is performed in bare feet. Contemporary dance can be performed to many different styles of music and is style is taught on our GCSE DANCE course where students also learn the art of choeography.

TUESDAY

Modern Theatre Dance   7-10 yrs

Modern is a great style for any dancer who wants to improve their dynamic quality and rhythm. It is a mixture of Jazz, Lyrical, Blues, Musical Theatre and Contemporary and also helps to keep the body toned and in peak physical condition. The syllabus taught is the Imperial Society Teachers of Dance (ISTD). Exams can be taken but are not compulsory.

Contemporary Youth Company - By Audition Only

Our Contemporary Youth Company is formed of hard working NLPAC dancers. They rehearse each week on Monday evenings to develop performance skills and routines to perform at events, festivals and competitions across London and the UK. We hold open auditions on an annual basis or whenever new members are required.

WEDNESDAY

Creative Dance   5-7 yrs

This class draws on each child's natural abilities, encouraging potential, nurturing inventiveness and building physical confidence as movement vocabulary develops. begin to build physical co-ordination and confidence in creative classes which offer them the opportunity to create their own imaginative movement sequences and dance phrases, guided by their teacher.

Contemporary  8-10 yrs

5.30-6.30

Students are introduced to the principles and foundations of contemporary dance technique. They will have the opportunity to work creatively together and, with the guidance of their teacher, devise movement work of their own.

Contemporary  11+ yrs

7.30-8.30

This is a mixed ability class developing the foundations of the Contemporary dance style.  Contemporary dance focusses on strength, versatility, improvisation and free movement. Students learn technical exercises and put them together to perform routines. This dance genre is performed in bare feet. Contemporary dance can be performed to many different styles of music and is style is taught on our GCSE DANCE course where students also learn the art of choeography.
