2018 – what a year!

We’ve had fantastic performances, amazing exam results, new teachers, new classes, wonderful workshops, and a new Charlotte Coleman scholar! It has been a truly wonderful year and there have been far too many highlights to include everything in one post…but we’ll try!

2018 began with our Spring term and it was all about the 2018 Annual Show. Students and teachers worked really hard and put on SIX wonderful sold out shows at Sadler’s Wells. It is always the highlight of our year but we all agree that this year was extra special. As well as the dance show, ballet performance, and the stage school cabaret, we had the production of Into the Woods. Our talented cast behaved so professionally and proved hard work and enthusiasm really does pay off. We cannot wait to see the 2019 productions of Aladdin and Little Shop Of Horrors!

The summer term saw our troupes and classes performing in local and national festivals. The NLPAC Contemporary Youth Company continued their outstanding development with performances at the Ignition and Thrive dance festivals. Joining them this summer, our new performance troupes were born with our NLPAC Theatre Jazz Troupe and the NLPAC Ballet Youth Company. A big shoutout also goes to the Saturday Stageschool and Boys Performance School for some excellent local performances this year.

In September, we welcomed the new academic year with new classes in street dance, acro dance, drama, and our brand new musical theatre choirs! Our Musical Theatre choir were invited to perform with the NLCC (New London Children’s Choir) and the Highgate Choral Society. There were also performances from our troupes at the Haringey Youth Festival. Check out this wonderful video of the day!

2018 was a brilliant year for exams at NLPAC. The Tuesday & Saturday LAMDA students achieved outstanding results. As we are an ISTD, Trinity and ABRSM accredited centre we were very happy to once again hold the exams in our building. We received 100% pass rates in our ISTD ballet and modern exams, and fantastic ABRSM music exam results.

Throughout the year, many of our talented students have been offered professional work in TV/Film/Commercials/Theatre. These include TV programmes such as Endeavour, Apple Tree House, Home, Hetty Feather, Devils, Hollyoaks, A Discovery Of Witches, His Dark Materials, Creeped Out, Victoria and more. Commercials such as John Lewis, Asda, Amazon, Marvel, Disney, Amazon Prime, Hampton Court, Milka, Volkswagen, McDonald’s and more. Theatre productions such as Matilda the Musical, School Of Rock the Musical, The King & I, Kinky Boots, Les Miserables, Little Miss Sunshine, Fun Home, RSC Macbeth, Grief Is The Thing With Feathers, Harry Potter & the Cursed Child and more. We would also like to acknowledge the students who are getting recalls or being asked to come back in 6 months. We are always impressed by your commitment and hard work and we look forward to seeing all the amazing opportunities you get in 2019.

In December, we were Highly Commended in the Haringey V&C Sector Organisation of the Year category in the Haringey Community Impact Awards 2018.

Finally, as we look forward to 2019, we can announce the winner & highly commended for our NLPAC Charlotte Coleman Scholarship. Taking over the reins from 2018’s scholarship winner, Riley, the 2019 recipient is the unbelievably talented Connor! A huge well done! We know you will use this scholarship well and our teachers cannot wait to see how you grow throughout 2019. The student chosen for our ‘Highly Commended’ goes to Sienna for her wonderful rendition of Mister Snow. The standard was impressively high this year so a massive well done to all the participants.
