At NLPAC we recommend students learn classical Ballet, as a sound Ballet technique provides an easy transition into other forms of dance. Ballet trains the body carefully, developing strength, control, coordination and line.

Non-syllabus Ballet

We understand that not all children wish to take grades and exams. For those who would prefer to learn Ballet for fun, without any set syllabus, we offer a range of non-syllabus classes. These are still structured, allowing students to learn Ballet technique and the joy of dance.

ISTD Graded Ballet

For students who wish to follow the graded exam route, we offer classes in Imperial Classical Ballet with the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing.

Students are given the opportunity to take exams from Pre-Primary up to Advanced 2 Vocational exams. Please be aware that from Grade 1 upwards, those wishing to be entered for exams must attend an extra class in the term of the exam.

Students studying for Vocational Graded examinations (Intermediate-Foundation / Intermediate / Advanced 1 & 2) must attend both weekly syllabus classes.

The ISTD Diploma in Dance Education teaching qualification is also offered in Imperial Classical Ballet, as well as Tap and Modern Theatre to students 17 years and over.

Successful exam students from Grade 1 and above, who receive a distinction mark in exams, are offered the opportunity to take part in the prestigious ISTD Imperial Ballet Junior and Senior awards in the Autumn each year.

Knowing Which Graded Ballet Class to Choose

Once a trial class has been taken, the teacher will suggest the best possible class for the student.

Examinations are not compulsory. However, we do hold examinations at our centre regularly throughout the year for those who wish to be entered.

Most classes have multiple day options, and students who attend two classes a week will progress faster. It is compulsory for vocational graded students (Intermediate/  Advanced 1 / Advanced 2) to attend two syllabus classes per week, and usually Ballet Technique is strongly advised.

We have a variety of ballet classes for children who may be starting or returning to ballet. We also have specialised technique classes for students who already attend graded classes with us and wish to take their studies further. Additionally, a dedicated Boys Ballet class is part of our Boys Performance School and encourages boys to take up this fantastic dance form.
